Range Bag Checklist

Pack it like the people who train for a living do. Med first, then the kit that keeps the gun running, then the stuff that tells you the truth about your shooting.

The bag: Vertx Course of Fire.

Hard dividers, padded panels, wipe-clean sides and bottom, and a lock-down cable that runs the length of the bag so it’s harder to grab out of your truck. The Light carries a pistol day. The Heavy carries pistol, carbine and a full med load. It looks like gear, not a gun case.

Shop the COF Light, $178.99 · COF Heavy, $238.99

  1. One on you, one spare in the bag for the guy next to you who forgot his.

  2. Gunshot wounds to the chest don’t take a tourniquet. Seal it, pack it, and know how before you need to.

TacMed Field Trauma Kit Level 2
Best TacMed Field Trauma Kit Level 2 $123.59
(hemostatic bandage, 2 chest seals, shears)

    Add: QuikClot Gauze 3″ × 2′ $18.99

  3. Slide bite, hot brass, a sliced finger on a mag lip. Band-aids end more range days early than anything else.

  4. Hex, Torx and a torque driver for optics and holster screws. Something always comes loose.

  5. For a dark bay, a squib check and the drive home.

  6. Train with the rig you’d use on your worst day.

Also carried: Rifle pouch TacShield RZR Double Rifle $39.99 · Empties Grey Ghost Roll Up Dump Pouch $29.99

  8. Have a buddy load them into your mags and you’ll find out how fast you clear a malfunction you didn’t plan for.

Also carried: 5.56 Magpul Dummy Rounds $6.60

  9. Also carried: 5.56 Federal American Eagle 100 $68.99 · Carry it in MTM .30 Cal Ammo Can $12.99

  10. The timer doesn’t lie. If you aren’t measuring, you don’t know.

  11. Plugs under muffs for anything loud. A spare set for whoever showed up without.

  12. Keep the gun wet on the line and clean it at home. A rod clears a stuck case. A bore snake won’t.

  13. Paper shows you every miss. Pasters let one target last all day.

  14. Know what you’re there to fix before you leave the driveway: zero, draws, reloads, splits. Write the drill down, shoot it, and log the result.

  15. One bag, packed and ready, so you can go on short notice.

Bag’s packed. Pick a drill and log it.

Buy the kit, then go train with it.
